This doTERRA Petal diffuser review will show you my real life experience using this popular diffuser.
Contents
I have used doTERRA essential oils in the past. They are very high-quality essential oils and certainly make my list for the best essential oil brands. So, I was excited to try out the petal diffuser and see how well it worked. Since doTERRA is well known and respected in the aromatherapy world I had really high hopes for this diffuser. See my full review of them here.
First, before I get started essential oils have been used aromatically many years. You need a diffuser or nebulizer if you want to use them aromatically. The aromatherapy industry is a booming industry is expected to reach 11.67 billion dollars in by 2022.
The first thing I noticed was that the quality of this diffuser was exceptional. It felt really solid in my hands and you could feel the weight of this diffuser. I mean it wasn’t made from cheap plastic like other similar diffusers (see my InnoGear review).
A lot of similar diffusers come in either a flat color like white or black. Some of them come with a wood grain texture. But, this one by doTERRA is unique. It doesn’t come in a flat color or any kind of wood grain color. Aesthetically this is an attractive diffuser. It has a lavender bottom and a white top. Then the logo is printed on the diffuser.
But, aesthetics don’t mean everything; I wanted to know how well it works. Please keep reading my review to learn more about the Petal diffuser by doTERRA

- Has three timer settings.
- Aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
- Super quiet diffuser.
- Covers medium sized rooms.
- 1-year warranty.

The Bad About The doTERRA Petal
- Price tag is higher than others.
- Doesn’t come with a measuring cup.
- Only one color for a light which is white.
- Only has a 4 hour run time.
How Do You Use The Petal Diffuser?
Ease of use is something you always need to consider prior to purchasing an ultrasonic diffuser.
To be quite honest with you most diffusers aren’t exactly rocket science to use.
It’s certainly an easy to use a diffuser. Meaning there aren’t a lot of buttons and timers or a remote. You can’t adjust the mist level to high or low like with the URPOWER 500 mL. One button turns on the diffuser. The other one controls the light.
Timer
There is a timer setting that stays on for 1, 2, and 4 hours. I should note that when it runs out of the water it automatically turns off.
Light
A lot of people like to use their diffuser as a night light.
You can do that with this diffuser. But, sadly you don’t have a lot of options.
Typically, most diffusers will allow you to cycle through the colors. Sadly, the doTERRA Petal doesn’t allow you to do that. So the only color that you can see is white. However, you can turn the light off if you want by pressing the light button. The light does automatically turn off whenever it runs out of the water.
You can’t just use the diffuser as a night light without the mist going, too. Whenever you turn the mist off you can’t just use the doTERRA Petal diffuser as a night light though, which was kind of a letdown.
How Long Does The doTERRA Petal Last With Water?
The doTERRA Petal diffuser has a runtime of four hours.
The water capacity is 150 mL. There is a red fill line that you’re not supposed to fill up higher. Otherwise, the diffuser will not work properly.
Some diffusers on the market require that you use filtered water. However, I needed some clarifications on this diffuser. I jumped on live chat and Dani told me, “Tap or spring water is what we recommend for the Petal Diffuser”.
As I have already mentioned there is a timer setting, but it can run continuously until it runs completely out of the water.
It doesn’t come with a measuring cup to pour the water. A lot of other diffusers do come with a measuring cup.
How Do You Clean It?
You should always clean your diffuser after 5 uses.
Also, I would recommend cleaning your diffuser if you are going to use essential oils that don’t mix very good together. This will help get the smell out.
A lot of diffusers are kind of difficult to clean. Meaning, they have multiple parts, inserts, etc. But, doTERRA’s Petal diffuser is as simple as lifting the top and adding in 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 1/4 cup of water and letting it run for 10-15 minutes. Then you wipe it down with a cotton ball or paper towel.
How Loud Is The doTERRA Petal Diffuser?
Typically, diffusers are pretty quiet. Nebulizers, on the other hand, are much louder.
The Petal is a fairly quiet diffuser that has a noise level that is 46 dB. Out of all the diffusers I have tried out it certainly was one of the quieter ones.
How Big of An Area Does The doTERRA Petal Diffuser Cover?
It’s important to have a diffuser that can cover the area space your using it in.
The area of coverage is 330 sq. ft. This is good for most bedrooms. Medium sized rooms are certainly what the doTERRA Petal diffuser was designed for. However, for bigger rooms, such as the living room it’s going to be too small of a diffuser.
I did notice that it does instantly fill the room with essential oils when turned on. For example, I used it to diffuse peppermint, rosemary, lemon, and lavender.
It puts out 37.5 mL per hour. This might not mean a lot to newbies or even people that know a lot about essential oils. But, it’s actually a pretty fair amount of essential oil per hour.
Warranty & Refund Information
It’s important to have a warranty if ever your diffuser breaks.
doTERRA has been known to have very quality products as you can see with my doTERRA Petal diffuser review. The warranty is for 1 year. Meaning, that you have 1 year of replacements if ever your diffuser should break.
But, here is the great part. If it breaks typically doTERRA will give you some tips to troubleshoot it. If none of those tips work than doTERRA will cover the shipping cost and completely replace it.
For more information on their return policy this article https://www.doterra.com/US/en/return-exchange-policy
I have talked with doTERRA’s customer support on “live chat” several times. They are always around to help answer your questions and extremely easy to work with.
Final Verdict
Overall I do have to admit the price tag is on the higher end. You can expect to pay two or three times more than cheaper ones on Amazon. But is it worth it? Yes, I believe it is. The quality of the diffuser is superior though. It’s certainly a diffuser that has a unique look to it.
doTERRA is a quality brand in the industry and millions of people have used them. I had high expectations for them since I already knew their oils are of high quality. I was pleasantly surprised with this diffuser.
They have a very loyal customer base. It’s very simple to use the diffuser and it can act as a night light, too. However, you can’t cycle through the colors. Instead, you can only use the color white. Also, the mist has to be going otherwise you can’t just use the light.
The vapor production is decent (37.5 mL per hour) and it does fill the room instantly. The run time is a little low at just 4 hours. It does cover 330 sq. ft rooms. This is good for medium-sized rooms.
It’s a very quiet diffuser and again I do recommend it if you can afford it.

I recently purchased a diffuser from Amazon…one of the cheap ones. It lasted about a week, and when it did work I wasn’t at all impressed. So, I went looking for a better diffuser and came across your site.
The doTERRA looks to be the diffuser I should have bought from the beginning. As you mentioned, they have a great warranty and support folks. And if it breaks, they pay to have it shipped back! I wasn’t so lucky with the cheap piece of crap I purchased!
OK, enough complaining about my mistake. 🙂
Thanks for the recommendations and tips on using and caring for the diffuser. Time to head of to Amazon and drop one in the cart.

Hey Kim,
Believe me, you are not the only one that has wasted your hard earned money on a cheap diffuser from Amazon. What is sad is some of the ones that are actually junk get really good reviews.
For instance, ones by ArtNaturals and Radha Beauty don’t even really sell pure essential oils. Personally, I haven’t tested out their diffusers, but really would prefer not to since they sell adulterated essential oils in the first place.
I am sure you will be happy with the Petal diffuser from doTERRA. It’s an awesome diffuser and you will instantly notice the huge difference between cheap ones on Amazon and quality ones.
I love essential oils, as I use them in making my own perfumes and natural beauty products – this is the first time I heard about doTerra though, is this brand also in New Zealand? would love to see how this brand is compared to my local ones. I would also love to check out their MLM program. Thanks for the great information.
Hey Ilaisaane,
Making your own health products and perfumes can be a lot of fun.
Yes, doTERRA does operate worldwide. doTERRA does get A LOT of positive feedback within the aromatherapy community.
There are actually quite a few people that are doing rather well in doTERRA’s MLM program. It does take work, but a great way to make residual income and help people learn about essential oils.
What a great diffuser. Even with the negative points that you noted it seems to be worth the extra cost. I would like to get it as a gift for my wife (and I) and maybe one for our daughter as well.
We used to use the plug-in variety aroma vaporizers but our daughter explained the benefits of essential oils so when we were gifted a diffuser by one of our friends we had to try it. The difference is amazing.
What is your favorite aroma? Mine is Sandalwood but my wife favors floral scents. It is sometimes difficult to get agreement. That’s why we need a second diffuser.
Hey Ed,
If you do decide to go with the doTERRA Petal diffuser it’s a good option. Very quality made essential oil diffuser.
Personally, I like peppermint as a favorite, but also vetiver when unwinding for the day.
I love doTERRA and have been using the Petal diffuser for a while now! It’s really a quality diffuser.
A lot of people will try out other cheap brands. But, once you start using doTERRA products you will forget about all the other cheap imitations out there.
I actually have three of these so I don’t have to keep moving them around from room to room.
Hey Michelle,
Thanks for your feedback.
A lot of people are very loyal to doTERRA and it certainly looks like you are one of them, too.
Since, you move your Petal diffuser around you might consider using a nebulizer which will cover for area space. I have actually written about nebulizers at: https://myscentedoils.com/best-essential-oil-nebulizer
